Where every breakthrough in mental health begins
It starts with the researcher searching for new answers. The clinician providing compassionate care. The educator mentoring the next generation. The crisis counselor answering a call for help. Together, they form the mental health workforce that makes hope possible for individuals and families every day.
Yet across the country, there simply aren’t enough mental health professionals to meet the growing need. Communities continue to face shortages of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and other behavioral health providers, leaving too many people waiting for the care they deserve.
That is why Huntsman Mental Health Foundation is proud to support the work of Huntsman Mental Health Institute as it expands opportunities to train the next generation of mental health professionals. Through innovative residency and fellowship programs, future providers are gaining hands-on experience in communities where they are needed most, helping strengthen access to care across Utah and the Mountain West. These programs not only address today’s workforce shortages but also build a stronger, more resilient mental health system for tomorrow.
Training the next generation is only part of the story.
As we look to the future, Huntsman Mental Health Foundation is committed to helping create even more opportunities for education, collaboration, and innovation. One of the most important investments in that future is the Mental Health Translational Research Building, a first-of-its-kind facility that will bring together researchers, clinicians, educators, and students to accelerate discoveries and move them into patient care faster.
This collaborative environment will help shape the future mental health workforce by creating new opportunities to learn, discover, and solve some of the most pressing challenges in mental health. When researchers and clinicians work side by side, new ideas can move more quickly from the laboratory to the people and families who need them most.
The future of mental health depends on more than groundbreaking research or compassionate care alone. It depends on investing in the people who will carry this work forward for generations to come.
As Huntsman Mental Health Institute continues expanding its workforce development efforts, Huntsman Mental Health Foundation remains committed to helping build the future of mental health through philanthropy, innovation, and partnership.
